Medical Cost Insurance

TM Medical Cost Insurance is for those who aren’t covered by health insurance because they haven’t had legal residence in Iceland for six months. According to Icelandic social security law, a person must have had legal residence in the country for six months to be covered by national health insurance. This applies both to those who are moving their legal residence to Iceland for the first time and to those moving back to Iceland after residing abroad.

This insurance is short-term insurance and is valid for six months after you enter the country. It is, in essence, the same as Icelandic national health insurance and covers, for example, hospital costs, drug costs, and the costs of medical treatment.
